So here I am, rambling again about my fave music. Let’s change from the Pop, Anime, JPop music. Let’s talk about the other dark side of music I love.
I’m a huge fan of Metal, Neo-Metal, Gothic, Pop Gothic, Dark Metal, Indus music. But there is one thing I have never imagined, Classical Metal!
Well it’s rather Metal, played with noble classic instruments such as Cellos.

Let me introduce APOCALYPTICA.

Apocalyptica

Apocalyptica is a Finnish band consisting of three, formerly four, classically trained cellists and, since 2003, a drummer. They perform Metal played on Cellos, they also play classical music. They are all graduates of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

Imagine the strenght of Metal blended with the power of Cellos! It is absolutely thrilling and overwhelming.
They have been struggling in the Metal scene for more than 10 years now, earning the respect of their fans and their peers.
They started their career adapting Metallica covers. For their fourth album, Reflections, they developed their style of cello rock further; adding drums and developing a more electronic sound, instead of the previous acoustic style arrangement found on Inquisition Symphony and Cult.

I had the chance to attend to 2 of their stunning concerts, in small Parisian venues, and I can tell you it is full of energy.
The first time was when there were 4 of them in the band, the second time, there was an additional drummer, I remember well since I was sat just in front of the drums. It is really impressive how they play the cello so energically, all together it was like a choregraphy.
I remember when one of them broke his string so much he was forcing on his instrument, but he did change it right away, unnoticed.

Here is an excerpt of their numerous worldwide tours (Germany):
