This anime’s soundtracks (2003) feature various style of music, from classical, ethnical music to bossa nova and bears different languages, from Japanese, English, French to Italian. That simply demonstrates Yoko Kanno’s multiple talents. She seems to juggle with this variety in many of her soundtracks. (for instance Ghost in the shell)

So here are my fave tracks. There are some other tracks I love, but some of them just remind me too much of Craig Armstrong so I decided not to mention it here.

I started with Classical tracks that are absolutey awesome, you’ve got to listen to it (at least the two first tracks). And ended with too sung tracks.

1. Shiro, Long Tail’s: There is nothing to say, it’s absolutely wonderful. A pure master piece. You really have to listen to it. I swear you won’t regret it. It is amazing, breathtaking. I’m sad to say that because it’s not Yuki Kajiura’s work, but it’s nonetheless overwhelming.

2. Sad Moon: The beginning is simply FAN-TAS-TIC, so emotional, so pure, so … I have no words for it. Those two tracks are definitely my favorite.

3. Rain of Blossoms: This track really makes you travel. Just close your eyes, and let the adventure begin.

4. Rakuen: I end the classical selection with that sad tune. The intro is quite sad, but just wait a little bit, and you will hear a more joyful ending. (the string ending reminds me a bit of Craig Armstrong but still I decided to put that track in the playlist because it’s really really something)

5. Tsume no Suna: A bit of electric guitars to really end the instrumental selection. Mesmerizing track.

6. Tell me what the rain knows: Sung by Yoko Kanno’s protégée, Maaya Sakamoto. Lovely (both the song AND the singer…)

7. Flying to You: Sung in French by another Kanno protégée, Italian singer Ilaria Graziano. It’s really hard to sing in French. But the result is not so bad. The song is sublime but that is a pity it is so short.
