Here is one of Kenji Kawai’s latest job (2006), the “Fate Stay Night” anime soundtrack. Kenji Kawai is one of the most famoust and incontrovertible music to movies, anime, video games and Tv composer.
He’s one of my favourite one, he is both good at classical and modern experimental compositions. One of his famous work are “Ghost in the shell”, “Avalon“, “Ring”… And believe, that’s not it, the list is long!

His work on “Fate Stay Night” is amazing, the opera songs are a pure marvel, (the first tracks on that playlist), it’s like though those songs were coming right from Heaven. I really feel like crying when I listen to “La Sola” and “Eirei Chinkon”, it really shatters your heart and soul, you feel so awfully weak and fragile after hearing it. It’s really trying to listen to it.

Here are my favorite picks, this OST like the Avalon one are a must. You have to get it your library!

1. La Sola:This outstanding sad high soprano song was already the topic of a previous post “Depressing effect”. You just fall over heel at the first hearing, it’s really a beautiful song, crystal pure. It pierces you heart and shut you from the external world. Really emotional.

2. Eirei Chinkon:

3. Kuchi Ta Kettou:This time it is a wonderful duet, soprano mingling with baritone. A real delight.

4. Fuyu no Yousei: Sad soprano again. Heartbreaking.

5. Senketsu no Kihei: Dark atmosphere, it reminds me of Avalon. Betwitching choir.

6. Tenshi Hou Take: Very Avalon-like, the choir and the chivalrous rhythm. Absolutely gorgeous track.

7. Unmei no Yoru: More joyful song, more modern but still so beautiful with the amazing hypnotic singing. It’s a real fairy spell.

8. Emya - Kenji Kawai version: More mystic because of the choir but with a modern arrangement, it’s a rhythmic track.

9. Inga Ruten: Dark instrumental.

10. Senrei: Very sinister instrumental. Beautiful but it gives you the creeps.

11. Kodoku na Junrei: I love this track, it’s so innocent and pure.

12. Kizuna: Piano solo, heartbreaking.

  • Hello,
Eirei Chinkon is actually a rendition of Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem Mass. That could possibly be the reason for you thinking it’s pure genius, as it is written by one.
Personally, although I like the solo soprano more than a choral rendition, I think that most of the changes in song made by Kenji Kawai degrade it. I like the original much more. Perhaps you should check it out.
