Myspace, Twitter, Facebook, now Robo.to, what’s the status?
We use those networking platform to update our daily status for all our friends to share our misery or happiness or oddest thoughts.
Remember I started 2 years ago, in March, with Myspace, when it was a real phenomenon. I dont use it anymore since the arrival of tornado Facebook. So this one is old fashioned for me. Some of my friends, artists still use it, but the rest all migrated to Facebook.
2 years ago, in November, I was invited to join Facebook. I really didnt know how to use it at that time, and little did I use it. Until one day I found out that all my friends joined in within a month.
And of course, with the medias, it was impossible not to know Facebook.
Now I’m still actively using it daily, to check out new update status of my friends and their photos, and upload loads of photos of my little adventures easily.
It’s also a great tool not to forget bdays and leave them a short message.
I have the Facebook application on the iphone but don’t use it much.
A year ago, beg. of the year, I started twitting, but till now, I still haven’t caught the Twitter fever that everyone seem to catch.
Well I still update it from time to time from my netvibes platform. But that’s it.
It’s not the first thing I think of when I have news to share. I’d rather update my Facebook status. As I know my friends would rather check their facebook page.
I think it’s been a year at least, but I think more than that I’ve been using Linkedin. It’s a professional business oriented networking platform, to keep contact with your coworkers and other professional contacts. I just kept my profile updated. But don’t use it much. Just some friends are linked to me and that’s it, so it’s more or less useless for me.
But it’s a good excuse to keep in touch with professional contacts that might be helpful in the future.
Just this month, I came across
robo.to and became quickly very fond of it as it is really painless and quick to upload. It’s more lively and personal than a simple Twitter or Facebook status update as it features a short video.
It is supposed to update your facebook and twitter update at the same time, but so far it’s not working!
And I hope they will develop an application on the iphone. I think I would be more interested to update live, with a photo shot/video my status than with the Facebook status update application that would only share words.
So far you can see your robo.to page on the iphone with the video! Which is great. But more would be greater
Anyway, it’s still in alpha version, so not fully opened and finalized. So there is great chance it’ll become a great tool.
Here is another community I use, for networking, it’s more fashion and art related, to display your art / fashion portfolio and build a network of contacts and fans.
It’s like the infamous deviantart. but with a nice flash interface.
And last but not least, what would we do without a blog?
Blogging is of course the most extended and interactive media to maintain your network and fully keep them posted with stories, videos, music, images, links etc…
I use wordpress and dotclear. Both are free and opensource. Both are good. And both are easy to use. I like wordpress better though.
