Penis fish? Sounds weird eh? Well, not that much after reading what it can do…

‎The candirú or canero (Vandellia cirrhosa) or toothpick fish is a freshwater fish in the group commonly called the catfish. It is found in the Amazon River and has a reputation among the natives as the most feared fish in its waters, even over the piranha. The species has been known to grow to a size of 6 inches in length and is eel shaped and translucent, making it almost impossible to see in the water. The candirú is a parasite.

This parasite happens to be attracted to blood or piss, so if you happen to urinate in the Amazon river, that little parasite can swim upstream or literally jump into the penis via the urethra, forcing its way through and later on grow inside of you.

The first case ever reported goes back to 1997, specialists say “The only way that the fish could enter the urethra is while it is expanded during urination, otherwise I don’t think it could move in.”

Now think twice before peeing in the nature (or even in the swimming pool, never know what can happen…)
