I have to put some Yuki Kajiura as lately I have been continously reviewing Yoko Kanno. But it’s only fair, I have to unburden on that post all the guilt I feel while enjoying discovering and sharing Yoko Kanno’s work.
So, it’s not “Madlax” or “Noir” as I promised some posts ago, but it’s still great, a bit more classical but still Kajiuran.
Hear it for yourself. It’s a beautiful album to discover, the soundtrack of “Le portrait de Petite Cosette”.
1. The main theme of petite Cosette: It’s a beautiful theme with lots of Kajiuran reference. Just with the intro you know it’s a Kajiuran song, the choir, the violin, the melody, the beauty, it says it all. The violin before the third minute is awesome.
2. Moonflower: Yuri Kasahara lends her crystalline voice again to Kajiura’s compositions. It starts very slowly, the songs last about 2:50 minutes and at the second minute, Yuri starts the serious singing but it’s already the end of the song. Anyway I love that song, it’s a pure marvel.
3. In a beautiful morning of May: Absolutely gorgeous. Amazing intro that gives you a taste of what will come next. Suprisingly some modern beats blends in with the rather classical opera song in that second part, but it totally fits (That’s Yuki Kajiura’s skillful art) and we are still seduced by Yuri enchanting voice. That song is really emotional, sad but you still feel the ray of light pouring over your head.
4. Hoseki: “Jewel”, the ending song sung by Marina Inoue. Beautiful song. I was always worried that Yuki was always doing the same recognizable style of “pop” songs, but with that “Hoseki” song, I am totally relieved as to her ability to compose amazing not-Kajiuran-like songs.
