2004 was a busy year for Yuki Kajiura with the release of many soundtracks such as “Le portrait de petite Cosette”, “Fantasy Sound & Reading: The Velveteen Rabbit”, “Mai Hime” and of course “Madlax”.

Madlax is another Bee Train animation, with the same mysterious plot involving armed to the teeth girls such like “Noir” and this year 2007’s “El Cazador de la Bruja”.

The other common point between those 3 Bee Train animation being Master Yuki Kajiura composing the soundtrack.

Hold on… There is another common point I would like to point out is that the main girl characters always share the same bed despite the fact they don’t know each other. In “Noir”, Mireille and Kirika share the same bed. And in “Madlax”, Madlax and Vanessa do share the same bed, then couch, then… Then nothing else, I’m just teasing.
But so far, in “El Cazador de la Bruja”, all I could witness was Nadie sleeping in a chair, leaving Ellis the bed. Well, it’s only the 5th episode so maybe the next one will have more bed sharing?
(PS: Well Now I’m viewing episode 7, and there is bed sharing…)
Anyway, there are so many common points, and I only mention that one for the fanservice.
Now that it’s wrapped up, just let me talk about the soundtracks.

Here are my fave songs from the 2 Madlax OST. It was a hell for me to set up the order of the playlist in an harmonious way, so I decided to start with OST 2 and finish with OST 1. Enjoy:

OST 2

1. We are one: One of the recurring theme of the anime sung by Yuuka Nanri.

2. Madlax: The Madlax character song.

3. Lost command: It sounds like a solemn military march, with ceremonial chants by Yuri Kasahara. The song is really mesmerizing.

4. Saints: In the same style than “Lost command”, but with a more modern and ethnic touch, “Saints” blesses us with uncanny chants (choirs are still by Yuri Kasahara). It’s really beautiful and makes us travel in another culture.

5. Places of the Holy: Yuri Kasahara graces us with her beautiful powerful voice again. It reminds me of the New age music style. Yuri Kasaha’s voice is really a delight. Yuki Kajiura uses a lot of her imaginary language in those two “Madlax” soundtracks and it feels so natural, like it was meant to be.

6. Open your box: Ok, now we’re drifting towards another type of music. I chose that track for the saxo mixed with the incredible beats and of course Yuri Kasahara’s choir performance. It’s an amazing track, totally unique. Totally Kajiura!

7. Friday: Another character track. Friday is Madlax’s agent, he gives her assasination or protection missions. It’s an instrumental, supposedly put at the end of this OST 2 playlist to make an interlude before OST 1. I chose it for the contrast between the violins and crazy electric guitars.

OST 1

8. To find your flower: Yuri Kasahara. So it says it all, it’s a beautiful sad solo. Heartbreaking.

9. Cradle: Yuuka Nanri’s bare voice with a simple music box accompaniment.

10. Elenore: Another character theme, sung by Yuuka Nanri. The a capella begining makes it very solemn, but when the synth chimes in, it’s really joyful, you can almost feel a ray of light. Smile…

11. Margalet: Margalet being one of the main character, this is a recurrent theme in the anime. Sung by Yuuka Nanri, it’s so familiar to me that I’m out of words to describe it. I love the flute part. It’s a 3 beats tempo so it makes it very peculiar, like a waltz.

12. Vanessa: The last character theme I chose (I didn’t pick the Rimelda one), it’s an instrumental, it sounds a bit Chinese I think. Just like it. I love the Vanessa character in “Madlax” so I had to pick that song.

13. Calm Violence: Another instrumental. I love the electro here.

14. The Story begins: I love this special atmosphere. It realy feels exotic… Well it feels uncanny at the beginning and then the choirs make it exotic.

15. Nowhere: One of the main theme song, typical of “Madlax” since it’s the action song. Go Madlax! You rule!
I absolutely love it. It’s so full of energy with the typical Yuki Kajiura rhythm and violins. It’s sung by Yuuka Nanri.

16. Inside your heart: Ok, this track belongs to OST 2 and not OST 1, but I put it at the end of the playlist for a good reason: it’s the ED of the anime. So please enjoy “Inside your heart” by Fiction Junction Yuuka (Yuuka Nanri). It’s beautiful.
